The critically acclaimed STARZ series Outlander returns for its eighth and final season on Friday, March 6, 2026. This marks the conclusion of the time-traveling romance that began over a decade ago, following Claire and Jamie Fraser through centuries of love, war, and destiny.
In this final chapter, the Frasers’ enduring bond will face its greatest trials yet. Returning to Fraser’s Ridge after the chaos of the American Revolution, Claire and Jamie find that the war has followed them home. As new settlers arrive and old wounds resurface, the couple must confront what they are willing to sacrifice for both their land and each other.

Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, bringing the sweeping saga to an emotional close. Filming took place primarily in Scotland, where production began in 2023 and wrapped in late 2024. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and executive produced by Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, and stars Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan, who also serve as executive producers.
Which Book Is Outlander Season 8 Based On?
The final season draws inspiration from Diana Gabaldon’s ninth novel, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, while also weaving in original elements that provide closure for long-running storylines introduced throughout the series.
Returning Cast and Key Storylines
The ensemble returns in the final chapter, including Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser, Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Sophie Skelton as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie, John Bell as Young Ian Murray, and David Berry as Lord John Grey. Charles Vandervaart and Izzy Meikle-Small also reprise their Season 7 roles as William Ransom and Rachel Murray.
The story picks up after Jamie’s decision to leave the Continental Army and return home, with the family facing political uncertainty and personal revelations.
