The Last of Us is coming back, but for how long? That’s the question HBO and showrunner Craig Mazin are now actively considering as the acclaimed series moves into its next chapter.

While Season 3 is on the way, HBO CEO Casey Bloys has revealed that the exact structure of the remaining seasons is still up in the air. Speaking recently, Bloys shared that Mazin is currently deciding whether the story will be best served by one longer season or two shorter ones.

“Craig is really thinking about that now, I’ll probably talk to him soon about what he’s thinking. We really leave that up to him in terms of what the best storytelling model is, so I don’t know yet where he’s landed on – whether it’s two shorter seasons or one longer season.”

Expect The Last Of Us Season 3 to premiere in 2027, and depending on Mazin’s decision, it may either serve as the final act or the lead-up to one final season.
