The Bosch universe returns with a cold-case twist.
Prime Video is expanding its Bosch franchise with Ballard, a new series starring Maggie Q as LAPD detective Renée Ballard. The drama follows Ballard as she takes charge of a newly formed cold-case division—under-resourced but driven to deliver justice by re-opening long-forgotten investigations.
Based on characters created by bestselling author Michael Connelly, the series continues the grounded storytelling that has defined the Bosch universe, with Titus Welliver returning in a supporting role as Harry Bosch.
“I’m beyond excited about sharing this show,” said Connelly, who also serves as executive producer. “I’ve seen it and know how good it is, and how Maggie Q absolutely captures the character of Renée Ballard. Great writing, acting, directing and production, throw in a few surprise appearances, and I think this show is going to be a fan favorite.”
Executive producers Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood added: “You don’t often get the chance to work with such a talented group of people and help create something as special as this show. Ballard is gritty, emotional, and grounded, with that layered storytelling that makes Michael Connelly’s world so compelling. We’re really excited to expand that universe and introduce Renée in a way that feels fresh but still true to the spirit of the franchise. Her journey is just getting started, and we can’t wait for everyone to meet her.”
The series will stream globally on Prime Video.
Ballard premieres Wednesday, 9 July 2025.
