The Savant is back on track at Apple TV+, and has not been cancelled, with the psychological thriller starring Jessica Chastain now set for a 2027 release.
The move comes roughly a year after the streamer pulled the series just three days before its original September 26, 2025 premiere.
The postponement last year was tied to the show’s subject matter. The series deals with efforts to prevent extremist violence, and some of its imagery drew added scrutiny given its timing relative to real-world events at the time. Apple TV said the decision followed careful consideration and that the series would be released at a future date.
Despite some skepticism over whether the series would ultimately surface at all, Apple TV maintained throughout the past year that The Savant had been delayed rather than cancelled.
The series comes from writer, executive producer and showrunner Melissa James Gibson, and follows an undercover investigator known as “The Savant,” played by Chastain, who infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to identify and stop domestic extremists before they carry out attacks.
Chastain leads a cast that includes Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste and Michael Patrick Thornton, with Pablo Schreiber appearing as a guest star and James Badge Dale featured in a major recurring role.
The Savant Season 1 is expected to premiere in Spring 2027 on Apple TV+, with the exact release to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
