Nightsleeper Season 2 is set to premiere in 2027, with the six-part thriller now filming in Belfast and a new cast leading the next story.
The second series was first renewed in June 2026. Colin Morgan, Madeleine Mantock and Christian Cooke will lead the new cast, with Morgan playing Stephen “Bo” Bowen, Mantock as Beth and Cooke as Johnny. Rupert Penry-Jones, Ian McElhinney and Sally Lindsay are also joining the series.
Several members of the original cast will return, including Parth Thakerar as Saj, Jonjo O’Neill as Hud and Micah Balfour as Leon.
Season 2 moves the action away from the railway and onto the open water. The story follows a Belfast-to-Liverpool passenger ferry that becomes the target of a potentially deadly cyberattack. As the crew attempts to conceal the seriousness of the threat from passengers, second engineer Johnny teams up with Bo, the National Cyber Security Centre’s new technical director, to fight back.
Nick Leather returns as writer, with James Kent and Chris Baugh directing.
Leather said:
“It’s so much fun to be embarking on a second Nightsleeper journey on a route I know so well with the Belfast-to-Liverpool ferry as our new box-of-tricks. We’ve assembled such a wonderful cast, I’m so excited about our story and I can’t wait to welcome the audience onboard for a non-stop night to remember…”
Season 2 of Nightsleeper is slated to premiere in 2027 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The series streams on BritBox in the U.S.
