Peacock has cancelled Poker Face after two seasons, ending the series four months after its sophomore finale.

However, efforts are already underway to keep the property alive, with creator Rian Johnson and executive producer Natasha Lyonne exploring a new iteration at another outlet.

According to sources, the potential Season 3 being shopped would feature Peter Dinklage stepping into a new lead role, with Johnson and Lyonne reportedly seeking a two-season commitment from any prospective buyer.

In a joint statement, the pair addressed the transition, saying:

“We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale. We love our ‘Poker Face’ and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”

Poker Face was structured as a murder-of-the-week mystery and starred Lyonne as Charlie Cale, a woman with the ability to detect lies. The series followed her cross-country escape from a casino boss, with each stop bringing a new crime and a new cast of characters.

Editor’s Take: While Poker Face Season 2 never quite matched the clarity and cohesion of its standout first season, and took longer to find its footing, a third outing still felt warranted. The format remained compelling, and the show’s world had room to grow. That said, the prospect of a continuation without Natasha Lyonne in the lead changes the equation. Her presence was the core of Poker Face, and a version of the series without Charlie Cale would inevitably land differently. If this is truly the end, RIP to one of TV’s most distinctive recent mysteries of the last few years.
