Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 Cancelled After Initial Renewal

Dexter: Original Sin will not return for Season 2 despite an initial renewal.

Overview

  • Dexter: Original Sin has been canceled by Paramount+ with Showtime.
  • The move reverses an earlier Season 2 renewal announced in April 2025.
  • Cancellation marks the first significant programming shift under Showtime’s new leadership.
  • Focus is shifting to Dexter: Resurrection, which is nearing the end of its first season.

Paramount+ with Showtime has canceled Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series to the long-running Dexter franchise.

The decision is notable as the show had been renewed for a second season back in April 2025, making this a curious case of a reversal on a prior renewal order.

The cancellation is the first major programming move by Showtime’s new leadership team, which has opted to prioritize Dexter: Resurrection, the sequel series currently approaching the end of its freshman run.

Set in 1991 Miami, Original Sin explored Dexter Morgan’s early years. The series followed a young Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson, as he struggled to control his violent urges. With guidance from his adoptive father, Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter adopted the infamous “code” to target killers while beginning a forensics internship at Miami Metro Police Department.

The prequel featured a blend of crime drama and psychological exploration, aiming to expand the mythology of the Dexter universe. Despite this, its story will not continue beyond the initial season.
