When does Sesame Street Season 56 premiere?
Season 56 Release Date:
November 10, 2025
About Sesame Street
Episodes will invite children to play along in new ways, bring viewers inside the world’s most famous brownstone for the first time, and feature celebrity guests, original music, engaging animation, and, as always, lots of laughter.
Each episode will feature interactive, immersive, and visually engaging 11-minute stories that put young viewers at the center of the action. Episodes will drop in three volumes and the feature guest appearance in the first volume is professional race car driver and NASCAR champion Bubba Wallace. Throughout the season, Sesame Street friends will explore compassion, kindness, and social problem-solving in ways little ones can relate to – whether it’s learning to take turns, cheering up a friend, or finding ways to solve problems together.

Netflix Era Begins on the Show’s Anniversary
Season 56 released November 10, 2025, exactly 56 years after the series’ 1969 debut, with new episodes streaming on Netflix and airing the same day on PBS/PBS KIDS in the U.S.
The Netflix deal includes Season 56 and the potential for future seasons beyond that.
A Reimagined Format for Season 56
The new season shifts from the old magazine style to two 11-minute story segments, paired with a fresh animated block, “Tales from 123,” and more fourth-wall interaction to boost engagement.
From PBS to HBO to Max… and Now Netflix
First-run episodes moved from PBS to HBO in 2016 (with a PBS window), later to Max, and, after Max ended its output deal in 2024, the show secured a new global premiere home at Netflix while continuing on PBS in the U.S.
The YouTube Expansion (January 2026)
An expanded partnership will make YouTube the largest digital library of Sesame Street content, with hundreds of classic full episodes rolling out starting January 2026, alongside ongoing YouTube-first shorts.
The CTW Model Still Drives the Show
From day one, producers blended TV craft with research, the Children’s Television Workshop (CTW) Model, aligning scripts to a formal curriculum and testing content for learning impact, a practice that continues under Sesame Workshop.
Global Reach, Same Mission
The move to Netflix broadens worldwide access (multiple languages and territories) without changing the core aim: research-based stories that help kids grow smarter, stronger, kinder, now with updated storytelling and music, and a steady presence on PBS.
Additional Notes: Picked up by Netflix for Season 56, following cancellation at Max.
