The Titans Return
The colossal saga continues. The second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere globally on Friday, February 27, 2026, exclusively on Apple TV+. The ten-episode season will release weekly, with new installments every Friday through May 1, 2026.
Following the success of Season 1, which explored the shadowy origins of the secret organization known as Monarch, the new chapter expands the boundaries of Legendary’s ever-growing Monsterverse. Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of catastrophic revelations that changed humanity’s understanding of its place in the world, and sets the stage for new Titan threats rising from the depths.
A Return to Skull Island
Season 2 reunites familiar heroes and villains as they converge on Kong’s Skull Island, where ancient secrets and untamed wilderness collide. The series also introduces a mysterious new coastal village, home to a mythical Titan emerging from the sea. This storyline intertwines past and present timelines, exploring how buried truths ripple across generations and shape humanity’s uneasy alliance with the monsters that walk the Earth.
The shift in setting allows for sweeping new visuals, combining Skull Island’s lush landscapes with the ruins of human civilization and deep-ocean environments never before seen in the Monsterverse.
Legendary Television and Creative Leadership
Produced by Legendary Television, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters continues to bridge the narrative threads between the Godzilla and Kong film franchises. Season 2 is executive produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, alongside Chris Black (returning as showrunner), Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman, and Lawrence Trilling, who directs four episodes. Writer-producer Andrew Colville joins as an executive producer and scripts two key episodes.
Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the Japanese studio that owns the Godzilla character. Toho continues to collaborate closely with Legendary, ensuring the series aligns with the Monsterverse’s global continuity.
From the Big Screen to Streaming
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the television cornerstone of Legendary’s Monsterverse, which began with Godzilla (2014) and continued through Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), the franchise’s highest-grossing film to date. The upcoming sequel, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, slated for 2027, will further expand this interconnected cinematic universe.
The Monsterverse has amassed over $2.5 billion at the global box office and now spans not only films and series, but also video games, comics, toys, and immersive live experiences. Apple TV+’s multi-series deal with Legendary ensures that Monarch is just the beginning, with several spinoff projects already in development.
