Prime Video has  ordered a new Stargate series, reviving the long-dormant Stargate universe with a new series simply titled Stargate, a “bold new chapter” developed by Amazon MGM Studios and franchise writer-producer Martin Gero. This marks the first live-action TV entry since Stargate Universe concluded 14 years ago.

Gero, who began his career on Stargate: Atlantis and later worked across all three previous live-action series, returns as creator and showrunner. “Stargate taught me everything about making television,” he said, noting the new project is designed both for longtime fans and newcomers.

Details about the plot and cast are being kept under wraps, with Prime Video only describing the project as a next-phase expansion of the universe first introduced in the 1994 feature film. The Stargate franchise went on to spawn SG-1, Atlantis, Universe, multiple feature-length entries, and additional spin-offs, becoming one of television’s longest-running sci-fi properties.

“Stargate is an enduring, iconic franchise that has captivated audiences for decades,” said Nick Pepper, head of U.S. SVOD TV development at Amazon MGM Studios. The streamer intends for the new series to honor the property’s legacy while steering it toward a wider, modern global audience.

A release window has not yet been announced, but expect Stargate to premiere in late 2026, or more likely in 2027 on Prime Video.
