Disney has announced that Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will conclude with a shortened third season, with the pickup serving as the series’ final chapter. The announcement comes ahead of the show’s return, with the final run planned as a four-part event this summer.

Executive producer Selena Gomez will direct the premiere episode of the final season and reprise her role as Alex Russo in multiple installments.

A continuation of Wizards of Waverly Place, the series follows an adult Justin Russo as he chooses to live a normal life with his family. When his sister Alex brings a young wizard-in-training named Billie to him for guidance, Justin is pulled back into the magical world while balancing his everyday responsibilities.

In the final season, Billie sets out to rescue her mother after losing Alex, leading to a larger mission that requires the Russo family to reunite and confront a growing supernatural threat.

The third and final season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will air this summer on Disney.
