Netflix has renewed Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of the reboot’s series premiere. The early pickup comes months before the series launches its first season, signaling the streamer’s confidence in the upcoming adaptation.

Based on the classic book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the drama reimagines the story of a pioneering family growing up in the American West during the 1800s. The series blends elements of family drama, frontier survival and the origins of communities that shaped the early American frontier.

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, said:

“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive. We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of U.S. and Canada scripted series, added:

“We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”

The series stars Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as her sister Mary, Luke Bracey as their father Charles “Pa” Ingalls, and Crosby Fitzgerald as their mother Caroline “Ma” Ingalls.

The Little House books were first published in the 1930s and have sold more than 73 million copies worldwide. The television adaptation aired on NBC from 1974 to 1983.

Little House on the Prairie Season 1 premieres July 9, 2026 on Netflix, ahead of the second season in 2027.
