House of David has been cancelled by Prime Video after three seasons, with Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios confirming that Season 3 will bring the series to a close as a trilogy.

The show was renewed for a third season earlier this summer with no indication at the time that it would be its final run, making this closer to a cancellation than a planned ending despite the trilogy framing now being applied to it.

Production on Season 3 is currently underway in Greece, where the series has filmed throughout its run. The announcement confirms that this batch of episodes will complete the story arc the show has been building since its debut, tracking David’s path from an outcast shepherd to a warrior and, eventually, to king.

Executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, noted:

“We’re incredibly grateful to be back in Greece with the cast and crew who’ve given everything to this story. Season Three brings us to the final season of this trilogy – the chapter of David’s life we set out to tell from the very beginning. We’re honored to finish it alongside our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, and we hope audiences feel just how far David has come by the time his story reaches the throne.”

Michael Iskander, who stars as David, also weighed in on the role ending after three seasons:

“Playing David has changed my life in ways I never could have anticipated when we began this journey. I’ve grown alongside this character, and getting to explore his complexity – his courage, his flaws, his ambition and the weight of the choices he makes – has been an extraordinary experience. Knowing this is our final season makes every moment feel that much more significant. I’m incredibly grateful to have been entrusted with this role, and I can’t wait for audiences to see where we take David in this final chapter.”

The series has followed David’s rise across its first two seasons, and Season 3 picks up before he reaches the throne. According to the season’s premise, David spends this chapter as a hunted outlaw, forced to hide among enemies and take on another false identity.

The season is being framed around the personal cost of his eventual rise, including the betrayals he endures and the sacrifices required of him before he becomes king.

Ending the story with his ascension to the throne gives the series a clear narrative endpoint, even if the decision to stop at three seasons wasn’t framed publicly as a cancellation until now.

Michael Iskander leads the cast as David, with Ali Suliman as King Saul and Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam rounding out the central royal dynamic. The ensemble also includes Indy Lewis, Yali Topol Margalith, Ethan Kai, Sam Otto, Oded Fehr, Louis Ferreira, Davood Ghadami, Aury Alby and Alexander Uloom, a cast that has remained largely intact across the show’s three-season run.

House of David Season 4 will not be shopped to other platforms or networks, with Season 3 standing as the conclusion to the story.

House of David Season 3 is slated to release in late 2027 or early 2028.
