The Americas Renewed For Season 2 By NBC
NBC announced today that The Americas has been renewed for a second season. The pickup comes more than a year after the acclaimed nature documentary wrapped its freshman run, which ranked as the #1 most-watched new alternative series of the 2024-2025 television season.
Narrated by Tom Hanks, who is set to return for the new season, the series uses groundbreaking filmmaking technology to showcase the wildlife, landscapes, and hidden wonders of North and South America. Season 2 is currently in production and is slated to premiere in 2028.
“We’re thrilled to bring The Americas back into viewers’ homes, taking them on a journey that reveals even more of the extraordinary worlds, iconic landscapes and remarkable wildlife that make North and South America so compelling – all while blending breathtaking scale, discovery, humor and heart,” said Sharon Vuong, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Programming, NBC.
“The success of season one gives us the opportunity to dream even bigger for season two, expanding the scope, pushing the filmmaking to new heights, and deepening the emotional connection viewers found with the series,” added Toby Gorman, President of Universal Television Alternative Studio.
Produced by BBC Studios Natural History Unit in association with Universal Television Alternative Studio, The Americas follows in the tradition of landmark wildlife documentaries, pairing spectacular cinematography with a sweeping score by Hans Zimmer and narration from Hanks.
NBC is also expanding the franchise with a pair of specials ahead of the second season. The Americas: A Wild 250th will premiere on July 2, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary through the stories of iconic native species, while The Americas: Mother’s Day is set to air in 2027. In addition, The Americas: Fun Fact Edition, featuring behind-the-scenes insights and bonus information from the original season, is currently airing on NBC.
The series has proven to be a major success both domestically and internationally, reaching more than 36 million viewers in the United States and selling to over 40 platforms across nearly 180 territories worldwide.
