Godfather of Harlem to Conclude With Two-Hour Series Finale at MGM+
MGM+ has cancelled Godfather of Harlem, bringing the acclaimed crime drama to a close after five seasons, with a two-hour series finale early next year.
Production on the extended sendoff is scheduled to begin in New York this month, with Forest Whitaker returning as both star and executive producer alongside the series’ ensemble cast. The finale will serve as the definitive conclusion to Bumpy Johnson’s story following the previously announced final season.

The two-hour event will see Bumpy Johnson facing the ultimate test as political rivals, criminal enemies, and personal conflicts converge around him. With his empire under threat from every direction, he must rely on the alliances and sacrifices that have defined his rise while confronting the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
According to MGM+, the finale is designed to deliver a fitting conclusion to the saga of one of Harlem’s most influential figures, culminating a story that has spanned decades of power, ambition, and survival.

MGM+ global head Michael Wright called the series “a defining jewel” of the network’s original programming slate, adding that the two-hour finale will provide “the sendoff it deserves” while celebrating the ambition and emotional depth that have defined the drama since its debut.
Co-creator Chris Brancato said he was grateful for the opportunity to complete Bumpy Johnson’s journey, praising Whitaker for bringing “intelligence, ferocity, and gentility” to the role throughout the series’ run.
