Amazon Renews Bloodaxe For Season 2 Ahead Of Series Premiere
Prime Video has renewed Bloodaxe for a second season ahead of the historical drama’s debut. The early pickup underscores the streamer’s confidence in the Viking epic, with production on Season 2 set to begin this August in Dublin, Ireland.
Created, written, and executive produced by Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst, the series chronicles the rise of legendary Norse ruler Erik Bloodaxe and his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, as they battle rivals and shifting alliances in their quest for power.
“As the writers and showrunners of Bloodaxe, Horatio and I are very excited to announce that Amazon have also already commissioned a second season of our new Norse saga for Prime Video,” said Michael Hirst. “We are so proud of the way Bloodaxe has turned out, in terms of its incredible storylines, its powerful invocation of Viking beliefs, and its dramatic recreation of the way that Christianity has started to overcome the pagan world.”
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the series’ scope and ambition, calling it “a sweeping saga that combines rich historical detail, compelling characters, and cinematic scale.”
Season 1 follows Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux) and Gunnhild (Jessica Madsen) as they fight for the throne of Norway amid war, betrayal, and the growing influence of neighboring kingdoms. As rival rulers vie for power and ancient beliefs collide with the spread of Christianity, the stage is set for a sprawling Norse saga.
The cast also includes Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen.
Bloodaxe Season 1 is slated to release early 2027 on Prime Video.
