BET and Paramount+ are bringing Tyler Perry’s The Oval to a close. The long-running political soap drama will end with its upcoming seventh season.
The cancellation marks the end of one of Tyler Perry’s most successful scripted franchises for BET. Since debuting in 2019, The Oval became a cornerstone of the network’s original drama lineup, helping establish Perry’s expanding television empire while cultivating a loyal audience drawn to its blend of political intrigue, scandal, and melodrama.
The seventh and final season will consist of 22 episodes, airing weekly on BET while also streaming the same day on Paramount+. The series finale is scheduled for September 30.
The final chapter returns viewers to the White House as the Franklin family attempts to reclaim political power amid mounting instability and fractured alliances. According to the official synopsis, Hunter and Victoria Franklin launch a “Make The Franklins Great Again” campaign while facing what may ultimately become the greatest threat to their reign from within their own inner circle.
Over the course of its run, The Oval built a reputation for high-stakes cliffhangers, explosive twists, and unapologetically dramatic storytelling. The series centered on a dysfunctional first family whose public image masked corruption, infidelity, manipulation, and violence behind closed doors. That formula helped the show stand out within Perry’s larger BET slate while maintaining strong audience engagement across multiple seasons.
The ensemble cast includes Ed Quinn, Kron Moore, Ptosha Storey, Javon Johnson, and Taja V. Simpson among others, many of whom have remained with the series since its launch.
From an industry perspective, the conclusion of The Oval reflects the natural lifecycle of many Tyler Perry productions. Perry’s television model often prioritizes high-volume episode orders and accelerated production schedules, allowing series to produce large libraries quickly while maintaining relatively efficient budgets. While some of his shows run for extended periods, many eventually conclude once they have accumulated enough episodes to remain valuable for syndication and streaming distribution.
Even so, seven seasons represents a substantial achievement in today’s television environment, particularly for a serialized cable drama. As linear television audiences continue to decline, maintaining a scripted series for that length of time has become increasingly rare outside of major franchise properties.
The ending of The Oval also comes as BET continues evolving its scripted strategy alongside Paramount’s broader streaming ambitions. More networks are now balancing traditional cable premieres with simultaneous streaming availability, allowing series to reach audiences across multiple platforms while maximizing franchise longevity.
Importantly, the final season announcement gives the creative team the opportunity to craft a definitive conclusion rather than ending abruptly. In an era where many cancellations arrive unexpectedly, planned final seasons have become increasingly appreciated by audiences invested in long-running serialized dramas.
For fans, the final season promises one last round of betrayals, power struggles, and family warfare as the Franklins fight to preserve their political dynasty while internal tensions threaten to destroy everything from within.
Tyler Perry’s The Oval Season 7 premieres May 20 on BET and Paramount+, with the series finale scheduled for September 30, 2026.
