House of the Dragon Season 4 To End HBO Series

HBO has confirmed that House of the Dragon will conclude with its previously announced fourth season.

HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys said the plan has always been to end the series after four seasons, aligning with the natural endpoint of House Targaryen’s history as depicted in George R.R. Martin’s source material.

When asked if Season 4 would be the show’s final chapter, Bloys confirmed:

“Yes, that is the idea. The idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.”

Showrunner Ryan Condal had previously indicated the series was envisioned as a four-season story, though HBO’s formal renewal announcement last year did not explicitly label Season 4 as the final season.

Bloys said Condal is currently finishing post-production on Season 3 and developing plans for Season 4, with no decision yet on the final episode count.

House of the Dragon is set to return for Season 3 this summer on HBO, with the fourth and final season slated to premiere in 2028.
