CNN is bringing Have I Got News For You back for a fifth season, continuing the network’s push into comedy-driven current events programming. The satirical panel series will return this fall, maintaining its place in CNN’s Saturday night lineup.
Hosted by Roy Wood Jr. alongside team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black, the show has steadily evolved into one of CNN’s more successful original entertainment offerings since debuting in 2024.
Adapted from the long-running British panel show of the same name, the American version combines political satire, celebrity guests, and comedic discussion of current events. The format allows the series to function as both commentary and entertainment, offering viewers a lighter approach to the nonstop news cycle while still engaging with major political and cultural stories.
The renewal follows what CNN describes as a particularly strong fourth season. According to Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent and CNN Originals, the latest run emerged as a standout performer across the network’s platforms while also becoming part of the broader online conversation each week.
That momentum appears to have solidified the series as a key piece of CNN’s evolving weekend strategy. In recent years, news organizations have increasingly experimented with hybrid formats blending journalism, analysis, and comedy in an effort to engage viewers who may feel overwhelmed by traditional political coverage. Have I Got News For You fits squarely within that shift, aiming to make current events more approachable without fully abandoning substance.
The success of the show also reflects the continued audience appetite for satirical news programming. While late-night television has undergone significant changes in recent years, viewers still gravitate toward personalities who can process political chaos through humor and cultural commentary. The chemistry between Wood, Ruffin, and Black has become central to the series’ appeal, helping distinguish it from more conventional panel discussions.
In a joint statement announcing the renewal, the trio joked:
“We’re thrilled to return for season five and continue covering the nation’s most important stories, most of which still sound made up.”

Season 4 featured a broad range of guests from politics, comedy, journalism, and media, including Adam Schiff, Hasan Minhaj, Andy Richter, Kara Swisher, and Larry Wilmore. That rotating guest structure has helped the show maintain freshness while broadening its appeal beyond traditional cable news audiences.
The series is produced by Hat Trick Productions for CNN Originals, continuing the company’s long association with the original UK franchise.
The renewal also arrives as CNN continues experimenting with entertainment-adjacent programming amid broader changes across cable news. With audiences increasingly fragmented and younger viewers less attached to traditional news formats, comedic and conversational series have become a useful tool for retaining engagement outside of breaking-news coverage.
Beyond the television series itself, the franchise has expanded into podcasting through Have I Got News For Your Ears, hosted by Black, which releases weekly episodes tied to the broader brand.
For viewers, Season 5 promises more satirical takes on politics, media, and culture heading into another busy election-adjacent news cycle. Given the show’s format, the constantly evolving headlines themselves are likely to remain its greatest source of material.
