Prime Video has renewed Carrie for Season 2, with the series continuing to follow Carrie White after the events of prom night.

The pickup is a swift one, coming two weeks after the Season 1 premiere on October 7. Prime Video says the series reached No. 1 on the service in more than 100 territories during its first two weeks.

Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios, Peter Friedlander, noted:

“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether, including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers. It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”

Season 1 followed a sheltered Carrie as she starts public high school after her father’s death, still under the close watch of her mother. Her story plays out against a viral bullying scandal, the pressures of the social media age and the emergence of telekinetic powers.

The first season changed the ending of King’s novel, leaving the story open with threads for a second season to follow up on.

Flanagan says the plan for the story was always bigger than prom night.

“For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.”

Flanagan has also said he sees the story as a three-season arc if the show continues.

King also weighed in on where the show goes from here.

“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.”

Carrie Season 2 is slated to premiere in fall 2027 on Prime Video.
