After a lengthy hiatus, Everyone Is Doing Great is finally returning for a second season – but on a new platform. The comedy-drama, which originally premiered on Hulu in 2021, is making the jump to Netflix after the streamer acquired global rights to the series. Season 2, which was filmed three years ago, is set to debut next week, with Season 1 also becoming available the same day for new viewers looking to catch up.

The move gives the series a second life at a time when streaming platforms are increasingly reviving or redistributing smaller cult favorites that may have struggled to break through during their original runs. While Everyone Is Doing Great never became a mainstream breakout during its Hulu tenure, it quietly developed a loyal audience thanks to its industry satire, self-aware humor, and connection to the One Tree Hill fanbase.

Created by James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti, the series follows two former television stars trying to navigate life after fame. The pair once headlined a wildly popular vampire drama called Eternal, but years after the show’s cancellation, they find themselves struggling with stalled careers, personal uncertainty, and the emotional fallout of fading relevance in Hollywood.

That premise has always given Everyone Is Doing Great a slightly meta quality, particularly because Lafferty and Colletti themselves rose to prominence through teen television. The show uses that background to explore themes of identity, nostalgia, and reinvention, balancing comedic absurdity with more grounded emotional storytelling.

The long gap between seasons could have posed a challenge, but Netflix’s involvement may significantly broaden the show’s reach. Streaming acquisitions of previously overlooked series have become increasingly common as platforms search for ready-made content with built-in audiences. In many cases, moving to a larger global platform can dramatically increase visibility, particularly for character-driven comedies that benefit from binge viewing and word-of-mouth discovery.

From an industry perspective, the pickup also highlights how streaming economics have evolved. Smaller scripted series that may no longer fit one platform’s strategy can often find new value elsewhere, especially if they carry recognizable talent or cult appeal. Netflix, in particular, has shown an interest in reviving or redistributing niche titles capable of finding renewed momentum through its recommendation ecosystem.

Paul Littmann of Sony Pictures Television described the show as raw, authentic, and emotionally grounded, emphasizing that Netflix’s global scale makes it an ideal home for introducing the series to a wider audience. That international exposure could help the show reach viewers far beyond the fan communities that supported its original release.

The return also comes at a moment when audiences have shown growing interest in entertainment-industry stories that blend satire with personal drama. Shows centered on former fame, creative frustration, and career reinvention continue to resonate, particularly as television viewers increasingly gravitate toward more intimate, character-focused storytelling.

For longtime fans, the second season represents the continuation of a story that at one point appeared unlikely to see the light of day. For new viewers discovering the show on Netflix, the availability of both seasons simultaneously offers an opportunity to experience the series in full for the first time.

Everyone Is Doing Great Seasons 1 and 2 begin streaming globally on Netflix on May 11.
