Apple TV+ has quietly pulled The Hunt from its release schedule, putting the French thriller’s future in doubt days ahead of its planned December 3 premiere. The series has been scrubbed from Apple’s press materials, with its trailer and promotional assets removed following plagiarism accusations that surfaced in France.

According to Gaumont, the studio behind the project, the broadcast has been “temporarily postponed” while the company conducts a review. “We take intellectual property matters very seriously,” a spokesperson said, acknowledging the questions surrounding the production.

The issue stems from claims that The Hunt is an uncredited adaptation of Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel Shoot, which was itself turned into a 1976 film of the same name. Reportedly, the new series mirrors the novel’s premise closely: a group of hunters become the target of another armed group, leading to a spiraling cycle of violence and paranoia.

Created and directed by Cédric Anger, The Hunt stars Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent, with a story centered on Franck and his hunting companions, who retaliate when one of their group is shot. After covering up the incident, Franck becomes increasingly convinced that they’re being watched, or hunted, in return.

With the premiere pulled and an internal review underway, The Hunt’s status now sits firmly in cancellation limbo until further notice.
