The BBC is bringing the band back together for another season.
The BBC has renewed Riot Women for a second season, bringing Sally Wainwright’s acclaimed West Yorkshire-set drama back for another chapter. The pickup follows a strong first-season run, which premiered in full on BBC iPlayer in October and averaged 5.4 million viewers for its opening episode over 28 days. Production will return to Hebden Bridge.
Season 1 followed five women; a teacher, a police officer, a pub landlady, a midwife, and a shoplifter, who unexpectedly formed a punk band and found themselves confronting buried truths, new friendships, and a long-hidden connection between Beth (Joanna Scanlan) and Kitty (Rosalie Craig). The ensemble also featured Tamsin Greig, Lorraine Ashbourne, Amelia Bullmore, and a lively trio of backing singers played by Taj Atwal, Chandeep Uppal, and Macy Seelochan.
Sally Wainwright said:
“Oh, this is where the fun really starts… we’re able to take the Riot Women extravaganza onto the next level!”
Roanna Benn of Drama Republic added:
“We have so many stories yet to tell for them and we cannot wait to get started.”
BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt said the series “has resonated with millions” and praised its blend of humor, emotion, and connection.
Riot Women Season 2 is slated to air in late 2026 on BBC One/iPlayer in the UK, and Britbox in the U.S.
