About Deadloch

Two vastly different female detectives are thrown together to solve the murder of a local man in the sleepy seaside hamlet of Deadloch.

Forget Tassie Noir, Deadloch is entering its Tropical Gothic era with the second season set in Australia’s sweltering Top End, aka the Northern Territory. Detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) are in Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner Bushy. However, their plans are soon diverted when a body part is discovered in a remote town called Barra Creek. With the Northern Territory police force focused on a large-scale search for two missing backpackers, Dulcie and a very reluctant Eddie are tasked with identifying the John Doe.

Sticky, sweaty and juggling comprehensive thrush infections, the detectives find themselves embroiled in a world of crocodile-fueled tourism, overstretched Indigenous rangers, cagey locals, and 23-foot prehistoric predators – all of whom call Barra Creek’s stretch of land, and water, their home. As the humidity builds, and Eddie and Dulcie dig deeper, more questions arise for our duo – not only about the case, but the many secrets that lie beneath the surface of this small town.

Did You Know?: Deadloch Season Two

Prime Video’s acclaimed crime comedy Deadloch is back with a bold new look and feel. The second season premieres Friday, March 20, 2026, and swaps the icy Tasmanian backdrop of Season 1 for the blistering heat of Australia’s Northern Territory. Creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan describe the tonal shift as moving from “Tassie Noir” to “Tropical Gothic,” capturing both the lush danger and dark humor of the Top End’s landscape.

Season 2 sees Detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) reunite to investigate the death of Eddie’s former partner, Bushy. When the body of a beloved local icon turns up in the fictional outpost of Barra Creek, the duo is thrust into a case as sticky and surreal as the climate itself.

Behind the Scenes: Filming in the Top End

This season’s production ventured deep into the Northern Territory, trading in Tasmania’s misty shorelines for red dirt roads, tropical wetlands, and crocodile-filled waterways. Filming took place across multiple remote communities and natural reserves, highlighting the region’s extraordinary biodiversity and unforgiving climate.

The creative team, directors Beck Cole (We Are Still Here) and Gracie Otto (The Artful Dodger), emphasized practical, on-location shoots to capture the natural texture of the Top End’s light, humidity, and monsoonal atmosphere. The result is a visually striking contrast to the first season’s cool, muted palette.

Cast and New Faces

Returning cast members Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama, and Alicia Gardiner are joined by a stellar new lineup, including Luke Hemsworth, Shari Sebbens, Steve Bisley, and Jean Tong, who makes their acting debut. The expanded ensemble reflects the vibrant multicultural communities of Australia’s north and injects fresh comedic chemistry into the series’ mix of satire and suspense.

Creative Team and Legacy

The show continues under the leadership of its creators, McCartney and McLennan, who also serve as executive producers alongside Kevin Whyte, Tanya Phegan, and Ben Grogan for Guesswork Television. Produced in collaboration with OK Great Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, the season is shepherded by producer Andy Walker, with post-production work based in Melbourne.

Season 1’s critical acclaim set a high bar, winning five AACTA Awards, including Best Acting in a Comedy (Kate Box) and Best Screenplay in Television (McCartney and McLennan), and earning an International Emmy nomination. It also reached the Top 10 in more than 165 countries, establishing Deadloch as one of Prime Video’s most globally successful Australian originals.
